Slatekeeper is published by Sleeping Giant Marketing Services Private Limited. It is a digital film slate. It has no account and no analytics, and the developer does not collect your shot log, notes, voice notes or location. The only thing the app sends to a server of ours is the purchase check described below.
What stays on your phone
Your shot log (scene, take, timecode, verdicts, notes), voice notes, production details, logo, drawings and settings are stored only on your phone. They are not uploaded anywhere. The app opts out of Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so a new phone starts empty. Uninstalling the app deletes this data. To keep or move it, use Export (CSV, PDF or files) and save it where you choose.
Permissions and why
- Microphone: to record voice notes and to measure the beep timing when you calibrate. Audio is stored on the phone only.
- Location (optional): to log GPS per take. Off by default; asked for only when you switch on LOG GPS LOCATION PER TAKE in Setup. Stored in your log only.
- Nearby devices / Bluetooth: to link phones over Bluetooth (Crew Link) with phones you have already paired.
- Network and Wi-Fi state: Crew Link joins phones on the same local network. Traffic goes directly between your phones, and every message is authenticated so a phone without the join code cannot join or inject anything. It is not encrypted: someone on the same network who captures the traffic could read production names, notes and takes, so use the set's own Wi-Fi or hotspot. It does not pass through any server of ours.
- Internet access: used for Crew Link on your local network and for the purchase check above.
- Vibration, keep awake: haptic cues, and keeping the screen on while slating.
The purchase and security check
Slatekeeper is a paid app. When it starts, and from time to time while it is open, it asks Google Play to confirm that the Google account on the phone still owns the app, and sends Google's answer to a small verification service we run. The app then knows whether to stay unlocked. If you refund the app, it locks on the next check.
- What is sent: a one-time Google Play integrity token and a random number. Nothing else: no name, email, Google account ID, advertising ID, shot log, notes or recordings.
- What our service learns: that the app is the official Play install, the device-integrity result, and whether the account owns the app (a licensed or unlicensed label).
- What is kept: the service logs only one-word labels. The hosting provider's request logs also hold your IP address, approximate location (city, region, country), browser or app user agent and the time; these are currently kept for 1 day. The service runs on Supabase, which acts as our service provider.
- If the check cannot finish (no internet, the service is down, Google Play is missing), the app stays unlocked. Only an explicit "not licensed" answer locks it, and the app remembers that on the phone until Google Play says the app is licensed again.
Sharing
Your shot log, notes, voice notes and location are not shared with the developer or any third party. The purchase check involves Google Play and our verification host, as described above. Data leaves the phone only when you export or share it yourself, or when you link phones in a Crew Link set (then the shot log, notes and voice notes you choose to sync go to the phones in your set).
